My Inspiration

Why do we all do what we enjoy? Is it because we have to do it? No of course not. It’s because it fills us with a sense of happiness and fulfilment. It is those elevated feelings that make us want to do it again and again. Be it reading, writing, working out at the gym, painting or playing a musical instrument; it makes us happy.

Writing and reading was a colossal passion of mine since I was very young. I spent most of my reading time when I was little indulged in one of two things: The Simpsons comics or Biff, Chip & Kipper. These reading materials were so special to me and allowed me to adhere to my hobby in the future!

Do you think I still read any of these now? I promise you I don’t although I have been tempted to from time to time! It’s just a shame that shops don’t sell Simpson’s comics anymore.

(The kid is me when I was in primary school winning a literacy award)

As I grew older, I still continued to read though the more common aspects of boyhood started to take over. I went out with my friends more, played more videogames and started getting on my mothers’ nerves as a form of entertainment. However, I soon began thoroughly reading again when I was in secondary school. I was in the library one lunchtime as I decided I wasn’t in the mood for sports for a change. I explored the shelves for several minutes, desperate to find something entertaining. Something exhilarating! That’s when I came across The Lord Of The Rings!

I had heard of the movie before and many of my friends loved it. I thought I might as well give the book a try and from that day I was hooked. I became so addicted with J.R.R. Tolkien’s universe, that I ended up getting two tattoos of it on my right arm! Crazy right?

From that day I started reading more literature (even classics like William Shakespeare’s Macbeth) and even began to write my own. I published my first fantasy novel when I was 18! My current favourite reads however, differ slightly. I still absolutely adore The Lord Of The Rings, but within the past year I have been obsessed with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. It’s all I have been reading recently! Maybe now you can tell where the inspiration for Marvellous Mystery came from!

I have come a long way since I was a kid winning awards for literacy in primary school. I have been through a few hardships but I have also experienced the best that life has to offer. I have had an extremely supportive family and group of friends and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. But where do I want to be in 10 years?

(This picture is me now. Have I changed much?)

I want Marvellous Mystery to have a larger following and more readers daily. It is a project I am most passionate about. I want my next few books to be published via a publisher rather than independently. I also desire to have my dream job that I am studying towards at university (that’s a secret) and to be able to financially support my friends and family that have helped me over the years! I believe you give as good as you get and this world we live in needs to have more people who care for one another. Life would become so much better and fruitful for many people if this were the case! I have many new project ideas for the future to help everyone involved and to take my writing as far as it’ll go! So, I hope that you will join me on that journey!

Who knows? Maybe my book will one day get someone into reading more as The Lord Of The Rings did with me!
